The East Gippsland Family History Group was formed in 1979 by a small group of people who were passionate about researching their family histories and over the years it has grown into one of the largest regional family history groups in Australia. We are a very well resourced group dedicated to preserving family and local history. This resource is a significant community resource that is accessible to everyone. Who knows, amongst our resources, or even these pages, you may find your own family name! Our group of volunteers are dedicated to:
The search for our ancestors and the tapestry that made up their lives and our history. The preservation of historic documents and the provision of a repository for keeping these documents including the family histories as compiled by our members. The expansion and development of research resources. Addressing the needs of family history researchers. The provision of a facilities that stimulate research and provide a relaxed and cheerful envronment in which to research and socialise for all researchers.

Our Their Duty Done project is a major project and our contribution to the anniversary of WW1. Over six hundred men who had a relationship to East Gippsland, through being born here, working here, went to school or enlisted from this region, died as a consequence of war. It is our aim to have biographies and an image of each of these men. In conjunction with Yeates Publishing twice a year, on Anzac Day and Remembrance Day a selection of these biographies are printed in the local paper. Click on the image to the left to connect to the Their Duty Done website where you can read those that have been completed and read how you can contribute to this project.
It could be said that Genealogy is a tree, in winter all bare branches but with a clear underlying structure, and that Family History is the same tree in summer, with all its foliage giving the rich tapestry that tells the stories of our ancestors. East Gippsland Family History Group Inc is a registered Charity, has been placed on the Register of Cultural Organisations and has been endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient.
